A Realtor or For Sale By Owner (FSBO)
I personally believe that if you are trying to sell your home, you should use a competent realtor in the process as they understand how the sales process works, have an already existing real estate marketing process, are familiar with the paperwork, and have proper contacts with mortgage firms and title companies, etc.
But there are many people that want to sell their homes by themselves as they think they can do a better job of showing their home and telling potential buyers the benefits of their property. Plus, let’s face it, most don’t want to pay a realtor commission.
But do they know what’s involved in the home sales process? Are they prepared for what’s facing them such as getting lawyers together, the paperwork, mortgage brokers, inspectors, etc.?
Isn’t it easier to let a professional take over and smooth this process for you? Maybe you don’t think so. Maybe you have your heart set on selling your own home. If this is you, I just ran across a good press release at: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2006/8/prweb424941.htm on whether selling your own home is for you. Martha and Bob Bradford have set up a series of For Sale By Owner books and a real estate advice column.
They also have a free, downloadable guide that you can find at: http://www.fsbocomplete.com/ on getting started with FSBO. It’s a perfect checklist of the things you will need to think of if you are going to sell your home by yourself.
What they don’t tell you in this guide are the details on how to market your home. If you would like more information on that aspect of FSBO, just go to my website at: Selling-Your-Home-By-Owner-FSBO
Let me stress again, For Sale By Owner (FSBO) is not for everyone. I have to say that if you’re thinking of selling your own home because you don’t want to pay some realtor a commission, then you might start thinking about the hassles that it might be for you. So many FSBO house signs disappear and up goes a realtor’s house sign. Ask yourself why?
FSBO can become a nightmare if you don’t think it through before you start advertising. A competent realtor will generally be well worth the commission money. Especially when you take into account all the time and trouble that you will have to put into the process. Is For Sale By Owner for you?
