Even though you live in a gated community, you should still take basic security precautions. Strangers can enter your community by following another resident through the gate. When you buy a new home or condo, be sure to change the locks. It is hard to know what service people the prior owners had given access to their home.
As a safety step be sure to keep your doors locked, even when you are home. Keep a light on by doors at night. Keep windows locked as well. Burglars especially like sliding glass doors; you can always use a cut down broom handle as a look. Keep balcony doors locked also.
Finally, be a good neighbor and to get to know your neighbors. A nosy neighbor will report suspicious activity.
